Catheterization Lab (Cath Lab)
It is one of the most important therapeutic encounters of Al Salama hospital. The device is the latest medical technology of its type [GE – model Q 3100] that gives the physician extra features and facilities helping him to have an accurate imaging and more effective intervention.
The device performs diagnostic and therapeutic catheterization applications under the guide of its radiological imaging. Procedure done by inserting a catheter into the femoral artery at the inside of the thigh and threading the catheter up through the artery to the heart. There, doctors shoot in dye and watch live X-rays of the heart and arteries on flat screens as they perform the procedure.
Catheterization procedure is controlled and monitored via the adjacent control room.
Cath lab procedure is painless and requires little sedation. It covers a lot of critical and important applications including;
- Heart catheterization.
- Coronary arteries and blood vessels dilatation by balloon or stent.
- Brain catheterization.
Interventional Radiology applications including treating:
- Hepato-cellular carcinoma
- Uterine fibroids
- Spinal fractures
- Bile duct obstruction
- Internal organ bleeding
Al-Salama catheterization lab is supported by a special unit called [chest pain unit] consists of 7 equipped beds functioned to handle the patient pre and post operation.
